Join Altrusa International of Austin at the Lucky Rabbit in Jonestown to help raise money for local teachers and students.  There will be two Silent Auctions: one from 3 PM until 5 PM and the second from 6 PM until 8 PM. 

 

For the past 100 years, Altrusa has supported the greater Austin community through countless service and literacy projects to address the needs of local teachers, foster children, displaced families and wherever the need is greatest.

In 1999, the General Assembly endorsed the recommendation made by the  World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth (Lisbon, 8-12 August 1998) that 12 August be declared International Youth Day.

International Youth Day (IYD) gives an opportunity to celebrate and mainstream young peoples’ voices, actions and initiatives, as well as their meaningful, universal and equitable engagement. The commemoration will take the form of a podcast-style discussion that is hosted by youth for youth, together with independently organized commemorations around the world that recognize the importance of youth participation in political, economic and social life and processes.

Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September. The UN General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire.

 

The International Day of Peace was established in 1981 by the United Nations General Assembly. Two decades later, in 2001, the General Assembly unanimously voted to designate the Day as a period of non-violence and cease-fire.

World Food Day is an international day celebrated every year worldwide on 16 October to commemorate the date of the founding of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization in 1945. The day is celebrated widely by many other organizations concerned with hunger and food security, including the World Food Programme and the International Fund for Agricultural Development. WFP received the Nobel Prize in Peace for 2020 for their efforts to combat hunger, contribute to peace in conflict areas, and for playing a leading role in stopping the use of hunger in the form of a weapon for war and conflict.^[1]

UN Day marks the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter. With the ratification of this founding document by the majority of its signatories, including the five permanent members of the Security Council, the United Nations officially came into being.

There is no other global organization with the legitimacy, convening power and normative impact of the United Nations. Today, the urgency for all countries to come together, to fulfil the promise of the nations united, has rarely been greater.

24 October has been celebrated as United Nations Day since 1948. In 1971, the United Nations General Assembly recommended that the day be observed by Member States as a public holiday.

The San Antonio Club meets on the second Thursday of every month at 6:00 p.m. for business, service, and camaraderie. Contact the club for location information.

Altrusa International of Garland gathers on the 2nd Thursday monthly to conduct the business and programs of the club. The meeting starts at 6:30 pm.  Attendees pay $26/pp for Dinner.

District Nine Club Presidents, President-Elects, and other Club Leaders are encouraged to attend the monthly Governor's Conference Call to gain updated District Information and share knowledge with fellow Altrusa Club Leaders.

Monthly Business meeting. Guests are welcome at all of our meetings. We take care of our club's business during a lunch meeting between noon to 1:00 p.m. 12 months of the year. We are currently meeting at the First United Methodist Church Lively Hall with fabulous meals cooked special just for us.  Our agendas are posted on our private Facebook page, with results posted shortly afterwards for those not able to attend so that our remote members can keep up with our happenings! Altrusa International of Collin County, Inc. gathers on the 2nd and 4th Thursday monthly to conduct the business/programs of the club.  Business Meetings are on the 2nd Thursday. Program Meetings are on the 4th Thursday. Meetings start at 12:00 pm.

Women's rights activists have observed 25 November as a day against gender-based violence since 1981. This date was selected to honour the Mirabal sisters, three political activists from the Dominican Republic who were brutally murdered in 1960 by order of the country’s ruler, Rafael Trujillo (1930-1961).

On 20 December 1993, the General Assembly adopts the Declaration on the Elimination of Violence against Women through resolution 48/104, paving the path towards eradicating violence against women and girls worldwide.

Finally, on 7 February 2000, the General Assembly adopts resolution 54/134, officially designating 25 November as the International day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and in doing so, inviting governments, international organizations as well as NGOs to join together and organize activities designed to raise public awareness of the issue every year on that date.

Our Program Meetings usually entail having a fabulous dinner and speaker. Our speakers are generally arranged a year in advance and from our community. They give enlightening or informative speeches. Once a year we do a mid-year evaluation and of course our officer initiations, which is always a special event. If we end up with an evening with no speaker for one reason or another, we'll fill in with something fun to get to know each other a little better. We love to have guests at our program meetings so they can see who we are on a different level. We invite everyone to attend anytime.
