New Member Kit
Welcome to the Altrusa family! This webpage contains a wealth of information for a new member. Your individual Altrusa club is encouraged to provide a New Member Kit for all members being initiated into your club. This is great information to be reviewed with a new member during a new member's orientation session.
District Nine provides the following New Member Kit Material:

In addition, your Altrusa Club should provide access to the following Club material to complete your New Member Kit:
A copy of or access to the:
- club officers
- latest club newsletter
- club yearbook
- club projects list
The Altrusa Traditions is available from Altrusa International and is a great resource that gives a close look at the history of our organization and the leaders who paved the way for all Altrusans.
As a new member,
- You are automatically subscribed to our quarterly Altrusa District Nine newsletter, News of the Might Ninth, so be on the look out for these periodic emails.
- You are also invited to join our monthly Super Saturday Training, “Navigating Your Altrusa Leadership Journey”, monthly on the 3rd Saturdays at 9:30 am, which cover a variety of topics to enlighten your Altrusa journey.
- Your individual Altrusa club will have a wealth of opportunities to connect as well, check out your club website for more information.
Altrusa emphasizes a strong commitment to service and community betterment, particularly through:
- Literacy: Altrusa believes that literacy is key to opportunity and a shared goal of the organization.
- Leadership Development: Altrusa provides opportunities for members to develop leadership skills in a supportive environment.
- Partnership and Collaboration: Altrusa works with other organizations and agencies to solve community problems and achieve greater impact.
- Volunteerism: Altrusa encourages and supports volunteerism and service, believing that everyone can make a positive difference in their communities.
How Do I Start?
Get the most out of your Altrusa membership by participating in club projects and activities! Altrusa is a social organization that performs service.
You can:
- Attend club meetings and share your voice in discussions and decisions.
- Participate in club service projects –there are lots of options!
- Identify a need in your community and suggest a hands-on project to address it.
- Help with existing or help create new projects.
- Attend club social events. All clubs have periodic fun events to relax, network and get to know one another.
- Serve on different club committees over time, trying out different focus areas that you’re interested in.
- Ask questions of your Sponsor and other Altrusans to keeping learning more about Altrusa.
- Accept leadership roles in your club to develop leadership skills transferrable to all areas of life.
- Serve on the club, District or International level, if you’re interested in leadership growth.
- Grow as a community leader.
- Make a difference.
- Make new friends!
One of the great things about Altrusa that sets us apart from other similar organizations is that Altrusa clubs have the autonomy to tailor their projects and fundraising efforts to meet the unique needs of their communities—because when it comes to service, one size definitely doesn’t fit all. This flexibility ensures their impact remains both relevant and meaningful at the local level.
Where Can I Meet Other Altrusans?
One of the most satisfying elements of being an Altrusan is the friendships that you make! Our club, district and global network makes it easy to expand your contacts and friendships with Altrusans in your community and around the world!
- Attend your local club meetings, committee meetings and community service projects
- Sit next to a different person at each meeting
- Help create and attend fun themed club social events
- Attend District regional events, socials and workshops
- Attend the Altrusa District Nine Conference, held in April each year
- Attend the International Convention, held every other year in locations around the globe
- Volunteer to serve on a District Nine or International Committee
- Get involved in one of your club’s international service projects
- When you’re traveling, contact a local club and visit their meeting or event
- Connect with other Altrusans through Facebook or other social media channel(s)
- Utilize our ClubRunner membership contact information and reach out to other District Nine members to visit or chat
- Participate in monthly District Meetings by zoom
- Participate in quarterly New Members Zoom meetings
