Governor's Corner...

3 questions can define why I am an Altrusan:
    1) What do I value in life?
     2) Where do I find people who enhance my life?
     3) How do I help others find resources to pursue their values and goals?
What do I value?  I value making a difference and leaving a wake in my path that helped someone follow along and learn something positive while I follow others who inspire me.   I cannot fix every injustice around me but I can affect small inequities that add up to make big differences in people’s lives by combining my efforts with those of other dynamic people – Altrusans.

Where do I find people who enhance my life?  This answer should be obvious.   Becoming an Altrusan put people in my life journey that I never would have met but for the friendships developed within this organization.   Further, while working with Altrusans I learned about community needs that I might never have understood or known about but for presentations and work with Altrusans.   I am the person I am today because of Altrusans who pushed, pulled and encouraged me at every step of this journey to strive to my greatest potential.   What may be less obvious is that there are many people in our communities that are where they are in life because of efforts of Altrusans.   These include scholarship recipients, children inspired by a book, families living healthier lives, families with access to safe shelter and many more.

How do I help others find resources to pursue their values and goals?   How we live our lives and set our priorities affects our ability to help not only ourselves but everyone around us.   Our active engagement within this organization with a focus on service to community builds our character and exponentially spreads through our Altrusa community and the surrounding local and global community.   We serve and we therefore lead others to serve until many hands make many differences for many lives. The list is endless of projects by Altrusans that made an impact on lives in Texas and beyond.

So why attend Conference 2023?  One hundred years in the making, Altrusa clubs in Texas invest time, talent and gather treasure to impact lives.   Learn how Altrusans’ efforts add up to a major impact in lives across the state of Texas.  Learn about the leaders who created the foundation for the organization to thrive through challenges and unexpected turns in history.   Texas Altrusans will begin the next 100 years of service on April 23, 2023, and you need to join in the celebration of moving forward.   Learn and celebrate the past while celebrating the possibilities of the future.  We will do a little business and do a lot of celebrating.   Be a part of the celebration and meet some of the dynamic personalities of our past while setting the stage with election of our leaders for the start of the next century of service.
In this biennium we rose and we shined while sharing with others how Altrusans can address changing times and needs ………we served.   Thank you one and all.  Hope to see many of you in April in Grapevine.
Mary Black Pearson,
Governor of District Nine
—Truly the MIGHTY NINTH!
Altrusa International is celebrating 100 years of service to Texas communities in April 2023.

You are invited to join our celebration! Founded in April 1917, Altrusa International is the first, original, women’s service organization in the nation. The first Altrusa club in the State of Texas was chartered five years later in April 1923.

Our Texas-size party will be held in Grapevine the weekend of April 21-23, 2023. Part of our celebration will be a centennial party, complete with a video, slides running throughout the weekend and celebration on the closing day ushering in the next 100 years of service. There will also be a “Century Book” showing the impact of 100 years of service to Texas communities. The book will include historical documents, international projects and information from each of our clubs highlighting the service they have given their communities since they were chartered.

You and your company are invited to show your support and appreciation for the service of your area Altrusa clubs by being a part of the celebration and Century Book. Below are several sponsorship levels ranging from a simple congratulatory message in the Century Book to advertisements in the Century Video, slide show, and social media.
