Make a Difference Day is the largest national day of community service of the fall!

This year, the event will be on Saturday, October 22, 2022.

Need ideas on how to be a part of this important day of service?  Check out the projects conducted by District Nine Clubs in 2021...

#MakeaDifferenceDay

Anderson County – Providing new or gently used books for reading nooks or accelerated reader programs in 5 outlying Anderson County elementary (or above) schools.

Arlington – Arlington Police Department.  We will give the Police Department Certificates of Appreciation for their service.

Central Texas – Families in Crisis Reading and Quiet Room – We update every year.

Copperas Cove – Altrusa spends Make a Difference Day reading to our three Head Start centers and passing out books to the little ones to take home.

Dallas – No project for MADD.

DFW – Book collection for donation (agency/school to be determined).

Downtown Dallas – Our Friend’s Place – We are helping the young women there decorating their new apartments.  They were flooded during “Snowmageddon” last year.

Garland – Making hygiene bags for Streetside Showers – a mobile shower service that caters to the unhoused community.  Partnering with Good Samaritan.

Greenville – Our project is “Good Night Bags” for foster care kids.  They have a pillow, handmade pillow case, Goodnight Moon book, journal, a night shirt, toiletries, socks, and a stuffed animal.

Lake Cities – To give a book to each recipient of Meals on Wheels to be delivered with one of their meals in our area.

North San Antonio – We will fill free little libraries in San Antonio.  Look to fill 45 – 60 boxes.  Is mirrored by a member that lives in Corpus Christi.  Really a great way to spread the book distribution by little libraries.

Pampa – Help distribute books to children PreK – 3rd Grade.  This book is the one written by Dr. Ben Carson, You Have a Brain.  This is in conjunction with the Pampa Education Foundation.  This book is written for young people.  We have also helped fund part of the purchase of the books so that everyone will get a copy of his book.  This will be given to all students in our schools (PreK – 3rd Grade).

Richardson – Organized by our “sophomore” sisters.  We are donating clothes to Hope’s Door, a family domestic abuse organization.  Plus members are donating their time at the facility.  Also focusing on collecting clothes for ladies to use for job interviews.

San Antonio – Making 300 Busy Bags for Child Protective Services in conjunction with a grant.  Sewing 300 backpacks and filling them with two books, workbooks, activity books, crayons, pencils and a stuffed animal.  The grant is allowing us to increase the Busy Bags from 60 to 300 from last year’s MADD project.

SETCER – Giving to women’s shelter.

Southwest Dallas County – Providing fruit and yellow balloons for hospital staff at Charlton Hospital Dallas/DeSoto.  We will also provide for one of our own who has a 5-month-old granddaughter still in the hospital with heart problem – born premature.  We will take balloons and hugs to them to brighten their day – and a gift for baby.

Temple – Our project will be a combined effort that will benefit the 411 House (for at-risk young men).  We will provide desks and chairs for their study/office area where kids can fill out job applications, do their homework, etc.  Families from the 411 House will come to the Temple Community Clinic where there will be health screening and health literacy.  We will collaborate with the Temple Lions Club who will perform eyesight screening.  Health/first aid goody bags will be assembled by Altrusans for the adults.

Texarkana – Throw a baby shower for First Choice Pregnancy Center.

The Brazos – Food for Families; Serving at Gospel Café; Books for District Nine.
