Altrusa International of Greenville
Adrien Lynn Witkofsky
Birth Date:      3/2/1949
Death Date:    1/29/2022
Altrusa Member:        2002
Five words to describe Adrien:
Energetic: Adrien always had the kind of spirit that would tackle anything. No matter how difficult the task, she was willing to give it her best. I remember how she took on the task of raising her granddaughter. The task was daunting, but she never let it get her down.
Compassionate: Altrusa was meant for Adrien and Adrien was meant for Altrusa. When she became an Altrusan, service took on a new meaning. She was always ready to lend her time and talents to whatever project there was at hand.
Optimistic: One of my favorite qualities of Adrien’s. No matter what the situation, she could always find a silver lining. She was diagnosed with breast cancer and two weeks later she went to District Conference and wore her signature smile the entire weekend.
Helpful: That compassion I mentioned earlier drove Adrien to tackle many service projects, committee chair, vice-president, and shoulder to lean on whenever needed.
Dancer: I could never leave out Dancer. It never failed after a day of workshops and meetings at Conference; you could always find Adrien on the floor. She would be dancing to whatever the beat was. Although I think the "oldies" were her favorites. Even though Adrien was no longer 30-something, she could out dance and outlast all of us. I can't remember a Conference when she wasn't one of the last Altrusans to be on the dance floor.

Altrusa International of Pampa
Mary Carroll Douglass McDaniel
Birth Date:      11/9/1919
Death Date:    1/17/2020
Altrusa Member:        1961
Mary McDaniel was a beloved Altrusan for 65 years. She served our Club in nearly every capacity on the Board, including Vice President, President, and Parliamentarian. Mary was an expert on parliamentary procedure, etiquette, and grammar. By volunteering to portray the main character in our annual fundraiser, Soup with Mrs. Claus, Mary became known around our area as "Mrs. Claus." Children would even recognize Mary around town during the year and "knew" that she was out on the lookout for Santa. Many would come up to her to let them know that she could tell Santa that they were being good. Mary wrote an editorial, Peeking at Pampa, under the pseudonym "Katie" for The Pampa News from the 1980s-1990s. She also kept up with the happenings of Altrusans and reported on those in our Club newsletter, Altrusa Views, for most of her 65 years of Altrusa service. Mary also served our community as a Gold Coat for our local Chamber of Commerce. She was very active in her church, of which she was a member for 88 years and served as a soprano for her church choir for 70 years. Mary was recognized in 2013 as Pampa's Citizen of the Year. She lived through the Great Depression, World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam, and wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Through it all, Mary stayed the course, dedicated to caring for her family, working in the community, and serving in her church. She spent countless hours with her grandchildren and their children carrying on the wisdom and education her parents instilled in her. Mary was quick to give advice, support, and encouragement to all who knew her.

Dr. Juan Caraveo

Death Date:    10/1/2021
Altrusa Member:        2012
Dr. Juan Caraveo "officially" became an Altrusan in 2012 after spending many years accompanying his wife to club events. Juan attended his first District Conference in 2012 being the first male member of both the Temple Club and District Nine and he relished in that fact. He said he only came to Conference for the hugs....and he got more than his share loving every minute of it. He loved to give back and interact with his fellow Altrusans and was quick with a smile, quick with a hug and quick to help in any way he could. One of his favorite conference responsibilities was to escort Past Governor Sue Powell at the Governor's Banquet. Juan was special to all who knew him and will be greatly missed.
